The Coastal Recycling Services Story

The four partners of Coastal Recycling Services (CRS) possess nearly 100 years of experience in the Recycling and Solid Waste Industry.

In 2002, the partners discussed the potential for the recycling of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste in the United States. The process had become popular in several states (CA, NH, WA and ME) but not in the Southeast U.S. The decision was made to purchase an existing hauling company and transfer station and convert the transfer station into a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

In 2003, the partners followed through with that plan in southeast Georgia. During this seven-year stretch, CRS has continually been at the forefront of C&D recycling initiatives and has proactively partnered with builders, haulers and the community to maximize the recovery of C&D recyclable material while minimizing the amount of waste requiring landfill.

The Quest to Build the Preeminent Materials Recovery Facility In Jacksonville

In 2006, the decision was made to establish a larger C&D MRF in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2008, CRS purchased 15 acres of industrial property on Blasius Road in Jacksonville and immediately began the process of obtaining all necessary permits. After more than two years of intense effort, CRS has received all local permits (Concurrency, Certificate of Need, etc.) and state permits (FDEP C&D MRF Permit).

The CRS facility in Jacksonville will be substantially larger than the operation in Georgia on a scale of five to seven times in capacity. CRS’s experience, combined with state-of-art recycling equipment, provides the foundation for achieving high-volume C&D waste recycling. In fact, the facility on Blasius Road will be capable of processing in excess of 1,000 tons of C&D material per day—and more remarkably—with a recovery/recycling rate in the 80% range. The facility will be open to the public and will accept all C&D waste as defined by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
